Family Session - The Picketts

We had a fun family session with the Picketts! They were a blast to hang out with. And they picked such a cool location for a variety of outdoor photos. We were able to get the full family in a few pictures - which is pretty difficult with 12 people all looking different directions and blinking at different times! Plus we got some immediate family photos, some senior/school photos, and some of the kids just being kids. It was a great day with beautiful weather and wonderful people!

We got there early (I drug hubs along to help lug my equipment and props). He posed for me so I could check my lighting. How sweet! :)

The entire Pickett Family, all smiling, all looking at the camera, all with eyes open!

I love these kiddos!!

Go Team USA!

The USA Women's Soccer team is in the Women's World Cup Finals tomorrow against Japan. So I'm a little torn... my homeland vs my motherland. It's a tough position to be in.

Actually when it comes to soccer, I'm USA all the way! Go Ladies! I'll be rooting for ya!!

I took this photo when in Costa Rica for a college scouting trip. I went with my college coach and one of my teammates to check out some players from several other countries. There was a big tournament in Costa Rica and a friend of the school sponsored us to go and recruit. Out of this trip, we ended up getting some girls from Antigua, so I guess it was worth it. :P

We had some great seats up at the top of the stadium in the "executive section". Sat next to some of the USA player's families. But then the main promoter saw my camera and asked if I wanted a better view. Not exactly sure what he was getting at, I said this view is great. He then told me to follow him (after clearing it with Coach) and took me down to the field, gave me a vest and a pass, and sent me out to stand with the media photographers!

It was insane. I was there on the field! I could have reached out and touched the players themselves! Several times the ball whizzed over my head and it was so hard not to jump in and start playing with them! Being a soccer player at heart, I couldn't just move out of the way and let the ball roll by me like the other photographers did, so there was once that I stopped the ball with my feet and passed it to Christine Lily so that she could set up for her corner kick. That was probably one of the coolest moments of my college career! :)

And then I grabbed some awesome photos of the game. Unfortunately back then it was film (no digital for me), so the photos are just so-so... but man. What I wouldn't give to have that opportunity now with my new equipment!

I just had to share. So GO USA!!!

Whittaker-Brakenhoff Wedding Sneak Peek

A little over a week ago, Stefani Whittaker married Jason Brakenhoff in a wonderful ceremony in Estes Park. They rented out the Della Terra Mountain Chateau for the event and I must say, that place is GORGEOUS! The Della Terra has a little outdoor ceremony area that is beautiful and the Chateau itself is amazing with the rock walls, the huge windows and the amazing guest rooms! There were so many great places to capture some fun pictures. The only wish I had for the weekend was to have more time to photograph the bride and groom and really capture the beauty of the place they chose for their special day! But being the main reason for the party, they were quickly whisked away every chance we got. Luckily, I was able to grab a little time with just the two of them for some romantic relaxation during the late hours of the reception. It gave them a chance to put their feet up and breathe a little before heading back to the dance floor!

Here are some sneak peak pictures (all SOTC = straight out of the camera = untouched = unedited)

Luxury to the Max!

For the past couple days I've been a spoiled guest at the Broadmoor Hotel and Resort in Colorado Springs.

This place is even more gorgeous than I could have ever imagined! I mean, I've seen pictures and heard stories and read about it in multiple publications, but nothing could have prepared me for actually visiting. The only thing I ask myself now is why have I waited so long to visit this magnificent place?!

Oh yeah.... the price of luxury.

It's not really in my budget.

My trip here isn't all fun and games. I'm actually working. Yup, working on my birthday (which was today btw). But when a friend called me up a couple months ago and said she needed a photographer for a convention she was helping to put together, I knew it was meant to be. So the details were worked out and now I'm here, rooming with one of the Committee Members, attending the sessions, going to all the social events, and taking photo after photo after photo of everything happening.

It's been a great learning experience with my new camera. There have been a lot of trials and experimentations working with the settings. But my new baby has been doing just great! (I'll let you meet her soon.)

But anywho, back to this fabulous place... The Broadmoor has over 700 rooms, 3500 acres, and a world-class spa that I get to visit later this week (per a b-day gift from my dear friend).

The staff are friendly, many of the chefs I've noticed are quite young (maybe apprentice chefs working on their internships?), and the place is covered head to toe in bright, wonderful smelling flowers. Our room overlooks the lake and turn-down service is fabulous. We're sitting here now enjoying the calm jazz music playing on the clock-radio, telling ourselves to just go to bed, but enjoying the peace of the evening way too much after the busy day of events and seminars.

I'll be posting some pictures from the convention soon. Like I've mentioned here before and in discussions with many people, this starting up a business thing is rough at times and there are details that I haven't yet worked out. So thanks to everyone for staying patient as I work through proofing websites and posting routines and getting this site set up properly! I owe you my deepest gratitude!

Now off to bed... it's gonna be another early morning!

MSABC Breakfast 2011

For the past several years I've been able to participate in the American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer events here in Denver.
This includes the 5K walk and the team-captain breakfast, which I had the pleasure of taking pictures at a few days ago.

Beautiful ladies!
I created these banners. Aren't they sweet?! I think they turned out great!
ACS CAN hard at work recruiting new members.
Lots of socializing and networking.

Our host joins us from KDVR Fox 31 News Denver.
We usually have Libby Weaver, but this year Melody Mendez was the host!
Great job Melody!
We had some delish food! Look how great the fruit looked!

It's such a blessing to meet all these great people who have sacrificed so much for this cause. Many of the participants in these events have been personally affected by breast cancer, or have family and friends who have been affected by this terrible disease and they are fighting back against it!

Some awards were presented.
And "Thank You" speeches were made.

But the best part of the morning...

I sat next to Marilyn and Maria. Aren't they just the sweetest lookin' ladies?! I hope that I will be able to see them again at future events!
